It's Christmas, and I've realized how little the holiday means without the presence of family. Living in another country you always deal with missing out on the little things that you use to be in the loop on. So far, I haven't felt too much out of the loop. Until today, I actually felt the distance that's between me and my family. They were enjoying Christmas Eve playing Phase 10...while I was just waking up Christmas morning.....and that's when it hit me.....I'm really THOUSANDS of miles away. Not only that I'm missing out on some GREAT food. I actually really like Korean food, but when it comes to the holidays; bi bip bap, kim bap, and ja jang myung don't really hit the spot the way they do on regular days.
However, I know that I'm still blessed bc even though I'm away from my family some of us have been able to establish our own little niche here and that is comforting. So, the moral of this sad little note is that we most def have got to appreciate what we have when we have it. It's too bad that human nature and our inability to see the future become obstacles to us being able to enjoy our present and the things that seem so attainable. Remember, one day all those things will not be as easy to have as it may be now.

Drawing the line

Is drawing a line hard for you? I can't draw a straight line, even with a ruler. My lines are ALWAYS crooked. It's funny (ok actually it's sad) that I can't seem to draw straight lines in my personal life either, even with the help of all my knowledge.
I mean, when we're faced with decisions that require us to draw a line, what do we do? Do we use our common sense or do we ask for help from our friends? When it's time to draw the line; to say this is where it stops....right here, can you do it?
Lately, I'm finding it hard to draw lines. It's hard to draw a line when you know that someone isn't going to like where the line has been drawn. Most of us, care about how our decisions and our lines will affect others. Honestly, we sometimes draw lines that are more convienent for the other person. Why is that? Why do we have such a hard time doing what's best for us?
Naturally, we're supposed to be selfish, right? Then how come when I'm drawing a line, I'm thinking more about how my line is going to affect other people? This isn't saying that I'm weak and just let people walk all over me. There are just some lines that are so freaking hard to draw. I've never been much of an artist, and now I'm wondering if that's why I can't draw lines in my personal life.
Anyway, I'm pretty frustrated with this inability to draw lines. I'm hoping to find a better ruler than the one I've got.
